Challenge and Workshop in 12th IEEE Conference on Automatic Face and Gesture Recognition (FG 2017)

The name, CogZest, is a blend of “Cognition” and “Zest”, where “Zest” representing affect. Here, we believe that deep learning is not merely a matter of acquiring dry knowledge. It also means learning to perceive and act upon value in a well informed manner. As such, at CogZest we also read, research and publish about affect.

If you are particularly interested in emotion, we encourage you to consider attending the following challenges and workshops organized by Dr. Sylwia Hyniewska, an expert in affective science in general and perception of emotions from faces in particular. (You might recall an earlier blog post in which I mentioned that Dr. Hyniewska and I are writing a paper on emotion as perturbance.)

Here follows the call for participation.

Faces and Gestures 2017: Joint Challenge and Workshop on Dominant and Complementary Emotion Recognition Using Micro Emotion Features and Head-Pose Estimation

(Deadline: March 24, 2017)

1st DCER&HPE Challenge and Workshop in 12th IEEE Conference on Automatic Face and Gesture Recognition (FG 2017)

May 31, 2017
Washington, DC., USA

Contact: shb@icv.tuit.ut.ee

This is a call for the two challenges and a workshop on dominant and complementary emotion recognition and head pose estimation. The challenges are held independently of each other.

  • Challenge 1: Challenge on dominant and complementary emotion recognition;
  • Challenge 2: Challenge on head pose estimation.

The workshop focuses on the applications of the visual analysis of human emotion, which is intended to encourage the initiation and development of innovative solutions pertinent to the subject. Both theoretical and practical contributions in the field of visual emotion and affective computing are welcome.

For more information, please contact us at shb@icv.tuit.ut.ee

Scope of Workshop

  • 2D and 3D human face recognition and identification
  • Emotion recognition
  • Emotion induction
  • Personality analysis
  • 2D and 3D gesture recognition for affective computing
  • Emotion-based human-computer interaction
  • Multi-modal visual analysis of human behaviour in affective computing
  • Head-pose estimation
  • Physiological signals and their effect on emotion

Challenge Submissions

For further information on submitting challenges, please visit http://icv.tuit.ut.ee/fc2017. Researchers and interested participants should pay careful attention on the deadlines which are provided both in this call and on the website.

Paper Submissions

Papers should describe original and unpublished work on the topics of the challenge and workshop. Prospective authors should prepare a full paper, written in English. The submission process will be handled through the CMT System. Submissions may be up to eight pages in the conference paper format and will be reviewed “double blind”. Further information can be found on the conference website. Each paper will be blind-reviewed by at least two reviewers and will be accepted based on its originality, significance and clarity. For accepted papers to be published, at least one author has to register and present the work at the conference.
